Who We Are
Linda Jacobson
Principal Consultant, Immersive Solutions for Aging Services
I apply healthcare market strategy and immersive/smart media expertise to help people use technologies to enhance aging with dignity. I’ve been developing immersive tech strategies for more than 30 years, with experience in leadership roles for major care providers, tech companies, research centers, and AgeTech startups. As a communicator, educator, and connector, I was a co-founding editor of Wired magazine and wrote many foundational AI patents for R&D scientists. My interest in expanding access to virtual reality and digital media led to writing the influential books CyberArts: Exploring Art & Technology and Garage Virtual Reality. When I was recruited to become the world’s first Virtual Reality Evangelist (1995-2001), I started bridging the gap between tech and business strategy and began integrating immersion, AI, and healthcare into enterprise platforms. I introduced VR to hundreds of organizations. From 2014-2016, I took a break from tech to work in aging services. Since then I’ve applied gerontology findings to help develop VR training, spatial design, and therapeutic applications.
I’m a member of IEEE’s Technology Standards for Aging workgroup and director emeritus of Virtual World Society.
